Linn Court System & Jurisdictions
In Oregon, there are no separate district, magistrate, or family courts at the county level. Instead, there is a unified system of Circuit Courts, and the Linn County Circuit Court is the only court of general jurisdiction here. Five elected judges handle all categories of cases.
Here is what falls under this court:
- Criminal cases — from felonies to misdemeanors and traffic violations.
- Civil claims — disputes over contracts, damages, small claims cases up to $10,000.
- Family law — divorce, child custody, protective orders, alimony.
- Probate cases — the process of distributing assets after death, appointing guardians and conservators.
- Juvenile cases — juvenile offenses, child protection cases.
Federal cases — bankruptcy, violations of federal law — are handled by the U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon in Portland or Eugene, not the Linn County Circuit Court.

- Go to the OJD Records and Calendar Search page.
- Select "Linn" from the list of counties.
- Enter a date or date range, party name, or case number.

How to Get a Copy of a Linn Court Document
Copies of court documents come in two types: uncertified and certified. An uncertified copy is suitable for review, while a certified copy has the official court seal and is accepted by other institutions as verification.

Note: Records in cases where the court has restricted access (sealed records), adoption cases, and some juvenile cases are not issued without a court order. If you are denied access to public records of a state agency, you have the right to file a petition with the State Attorney General.
Historical Records
Older county documents — court journals, tax records, sheriff's records — are stored in the Oregon Secretary of State Archives. The sheriff's archive is closed to public access; for information, contact the sheriff's office.
